Silay City as a Little Paris of Negros

Silay City is one of the prime cities in the province of Negros.This city was full of historical culture which treasured and cared by the silaynon.   

The Government of Silay support and develop the city to the empress visitors and to showcase the historical place.












The appellation " They  " is derived from the name of a tree which grew abundantly in the area.

The " kansilay " is the city's official tree.  

More than thirty of these houses have been declared by the  National Historical Commission of the Philippines as part of the Silay National Historical Landmark. 

Because of the rich  culture, the city was considered as one of the heritage sites in the Philippines.This was called as the "Little Paris of Negros" because of its heritage houses / mansions which builds during spanish era. 

T he residents' love for knowledge and works of art, and its collection of heritage mansions built during the height of the Philippine sugar industry's success, of which Negros was the center.  Most notable among these houses is  Balay Negrense, the mansion of the son of the first Negrense sugar baron.

The houses were the seat of the privileged clans of the city.  But the damage of the War and the decline of the sugar industry led to the return to its laid back atmosphere.
